No worries. You have forgotten more about these cars than I'll ever learn. Thanx for the primer on the trim tag date code. I did not know that. I'm in PA and all my books and documentation are at my home in FL.

Actually, I like side pipes. They look cool and sound great. Like a Hot Wheels car, and they do add value (about 5%). Though I still have a scar on my calf from the burn I got getting out of a side pipe Vette I was test driving back in 2001. However, if they ain't original to the car, they gotta go. Everyone here helped me determine that they weren't original so I knew that before I went to MI to see the car. Having side pipes wasn't that important to me. Sometimes I feel a bit guilty about the fact that I am benefiting from this poor economy. I am one of the blessed people that has kept a really good job and now I'm able to buy a Vette at these depressed prices. A few years back I would have never dreamed that a '69 numbers-matching, big-block, convertible w/ 4-spd would have been within my reach. In a few weeks it will be in my garage.

Best of luck with your new Corvette. Perhaps some day I will get to judge it. I would like that.

There is a HUGE difference in the sound between the 1969 side exhaust and the mid-year version. The 1969 I bought new, 390hp with side exhaust, drove me crazy for the 8 weeks I had it. Drove it 300 miles and the folks we were visiting at the other end asked why we were shouting at them.

On the other hand one of the sweetest sounds I have heard was a '66 425 hp through the side pipes, but then SHP engines of any size have a unique sound to them. I didn't have the chance for a long cruise in the '66, so I can't speak to the long term effect on ones hearing.

I blame my loss of hearing on old time Rock & Roll -- or at least that is what I tell my wife. I did attend quite a few concerts front and center in my youth, so that may be it.

That would be great! It won't be this year though. I would like to get it to our FL chapter meet this Nov but since I'm in PA for a work assignment until next June, that's not going to happen. It would sure be nice to get other pairs of eyes evaluating it before I plan the resto project. The best we can hope for is Kissimmee 2013.

Me too ... Ted Nugent (4 times), Led Zeppelin, The Who, Yes (twice), Aerosmith (twice), Black Sabbath, Kiss, etc... All north of 110 decibels. Main floor in front of those large stacks of speaker cabinets. Maybe that's why I like side pipes - I can ACTUALLY hear the engine!

Janice and Jimmy for me. 1970 was a very sad year for me, but I did get the Corvette in February and then Janice died. Oh and then there was the Lascivious Concert in Chicago at the old Stadium. James Morison put on quite a show. I barely remember that. My eldest sister has to keep reminding me of the details of that one.

Wow! I'm in awe. I wish I could have seen Hendrix and Morrison in concert. But I was 10 years old at the time and a Hendrix concert wasn't exactly a "family" activity.

I did forget to mention one of my favs: Pink Floyd - Animals Tour '77. The old Cleveland Indians stadium.

None of those concerts were exactly family activities back then, unless you had a very unusual "family." Some of us did.
