Top Ignition Shield Repair Kit - Plastic Rivet

One of the plastic rivets on my top shielding feel off this week. I ordered a kit from CC and now have some of the plastic rivets and metal washers, but there are no instructions on how to melt or crush the plastic rivet over the washer to hold the inner protector in place. Anyone done this and have a suggestion? I tried heating with a solder iron but no luck. Thanks.

Kirk, could you post the CC part number for these plastic rivets and washer reapir kit? I have been looking for something like this for while and cannot find it online at Corvette Central. Thanks

Are they the clear yellowed or white rivets?

CC 472021 Top Shield Repair Kit. They are white in color.

I used one of those grill starters and flamed the rivet once mounted. It lit sorta like a candle wick and then I crushed it with one of my airplane rivet gun tools into a rounded shape. Kinda scary with open flame inside top cover, but I just lit it several times in a row until the rivet caught fire than crushed it. No heat damage to anything else around it.
