    56 hardtop question

Does anyone know what the hole is for to the right of the latch? Their is a hole just like it on the other side as well.

    Re: 56 hardtop question

At one time there was a screw in peg one each side that placed the hard top in correct alignment to secure the top. At some point the windshield frame changed position ie: broken tabs, and the top would no longer line up with the slots in the windshield frame. The easy fix is to remove the pegs and now the top fits the new position of the windshield frame.

Are these the posts you are speaking of, new photo...

So if the posts do not line up, how do these drilled holes line the top up or what is their function?

John , the one hole you show when I blow your picture up looks to have been crudely made , I don't know how it compares to the hole on the other side . My 59 top does not have any other holes except the one for the alignment pin . 56 - 60 tops were basicly the same except for the front SS header . I think someone made the extra holes for what I can't imagine . They don't look threaded so nothing was screwed into it .

I don't believe those are factory holes. The 56 top I have here has no such holes.

Hi John; I have to agree with Mike, I have the original 56 hardtop for my car and it does not have any holes in it where you have indicated.
