    Mid Year Seat Belt Install

I am installing seat belts in my '63 Conv. There were no belts in it when I bought it....now I know why. The outside hex head bolts that hold the belts to the frame bracket are totally distroyed and the welded nuts have broken loose. If I cut off the bolt heads with a Dremmel, there dose'nt appear to be enough room to get the welded nuts out from between the frame and body. Any suggestions on how to R&R both without lifting the body off of the frame. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Take a look at Section 1 sheet B2.00 in AIM, it would appear you can take plate assy, fix, & rivet back. See LI 16-39A - others may have also just picked up LI catalog first.

William, have you figured out how to do this yet? I have same issue, RH outboard plate asm is missing nut. Not sure there is enough room to remove and re-install plate with body on.

I had the same problem on both sides (outer) on my 63. I used the BFI approach, that brute force and ignorance.

I cut the heads off the rivets and took out the nut plates. Luckily I was able to slide in new nut plates and pop-rivet them in. When I pull the body next time I will remove all the pop-rivets and replace with the proper rivets.

        Good luck!

Was afraid of that! The welds broke on the nut while body was off during resto and it's "one" of those things I forgot to fix before the body went back on. I am hoping maybe if I remove the sidepipe I can get get up there with the nut somehow and screw the bolt in.....that should be fun.

Harry, "next time the body is off" ???? I don't EVER want to do that again, getting too old for that stuff!!!
