I know the corvette bronze is rare in its own right for '70, would love to know how many excatly...
Bill, I enjoyed talking to you by telephone. I emailed the owner of 00006 with the Ontario Orange '70 and hopefully he will respond to the posts on this thread and/or reply to my email. The owner might be able to shed some light on that story you heard. You might try the TDB archives.
The only other 1970 Corvette Bronze I have ever seen is owned by Herschell Andrews in Houston, Texas.

There was a Corvette Bronze 1970 in Minnesota -- a Shrine car -- when I was at that Chapter Meet a month or so ago I heard it was sold, but didn't hear where to.

There is a Bronze 1970 LT1 in New Jersey. It has been through the NCRS system to Duntov, and I saw the owner over the Summer and he is talking about bringing it back around.

Both the above cars have been restored.

Years ago someone was doing a Corvette Bronze survey, but not having one I didn't get involved.

I have a 1970 454 bronze all option conv. except deluxe Interior, wheel covers & shoulder belts. The car was bought new at Bob McDormen in Ohio. I am the second owner & the car had origional paint when I bought it. It looked like the paint chip on the dealer book. The paint was really thin from buffing when i got it. I had it repainted but left the jams ETC alone. The color matches the jams. I have only saw a few 70'S that color.

It's nice to hear about some of the other "bronze beauties" that are out there. Mine is an all original 350/300hp auto coupe that is fully loaded except for the leather interior. I bought it from a the 2nd owner who had it for 23 years in texas. I shipped it to NJ this past spring.

Guys, today I personally saw a 1970, perhaps a Bowtie candidate, 993 "Bronze beauty". The color looked very much like Ontario Orange to me, but again, the trim tag clearly showed 993, and looked legit. Gorgeous car.

I don't want to speak for the owner, or betray a trust, so I won't. But they're obviously out there.

No I don't know where in NJ Bill. I don't keep owner information on cars I survey for privacy reasons.

Another NCRS member reading this thread reminded me of a 1970 ZR1 in bronze that was through the NCRS system in the 1994 time frame.

I sure wish Corvette Bronze had so many fans when I was trying to sell my 68 L-89 convertible. This was a real L-89 with a tank sticker. It was a never hit El Paso car with a perfectly rust free frame, no rivit bulges at the front header, and a very good lacquer paint job. It had a tobacco interior and P02 wheel covers. We took it to Carlisle several years to sell in the late 90's. Potential buyers admired its condition and documentation, but didn't like the bronze color, the interior color, or the wheel covers. It looked better with trim rings and caps and the P02s (cited on the tank sticker) in a box. We finally found a buyer through a middle man for $26k, about half of we thought it was worth then. This car would have been easy to sell in any other color.

Here is the car Pat is referring to:

993 code with saddle interior..... Delivered new as a Los Angelos Zone Car per the shippers report.

300 hp base motor with automatic and with California emissions. Has all options: A/C, PS, PB, PW, alarm, tilt and two tops.

Everyone always ask if that was an original color....

Now this is a Paint Standard for 1970 Corvette Bronze painted in 1970 photos and lighting can play with colors. The first one is under florescent lighting has a orange look. Then the second is with a flash so this is the best one that I have in a photo till the sun come out from behind the clouds.

Every time I adjust for the position of the photos the computer swaps their position. So the one with the straight line in it is the florescent.

I have an original dealer paint brochure for 1970, one with paint chips (entitled "Colors for new Camaro/new Corvette by Chevrolet"). It shows Ontario Orange (Corvette only), code 62, as offered, but no bronze. Maybe it was printed early, if orange was substituted out for bronze.

                              Interesting thread.

I can tell you that Ontario Orange was not used in 1970 but did become available in 1971 and 1972. If you go to this Paint chart for Corvettes it will show that Ontario Orange is not listed.

Here are some photos of the standard in sun light. The dark outline in the plate is my head it is rather large.
