    72 luggage rack

I have a 72 with a luggage rack. What is the average point deduction for having one? Thanks Rick

There should be no average at all. The exterior guys have a "standard" deduction (I don't think it is in the JRM) they use that is based ont he holes in the fiberglass. I will have to let one of them put it out here though, because I don't do exterior i ahve noidea what it is.

It's usually 1 point per hole in the body, so 6 points total for a typical '72 era rack.

Usually 2, maybe 3 points. I've never had 6 points deducted for mine, and never deducted that much for anyone else.

There are 55 points for condition, and it's considered "damage" to the original fiberglass. Given that it was a dealer option and it's such a small area of the overall car body 2 points is relatively common. 6 would be excessive.

I emailed the "real deal" for his duce centavos. Maybe the "standard" is not as standard as I thought.

If memory serves me right there is a deduct for the damage to the fiberglass and also to the paint on the condition side. The fiberglass was usually as Patrick stated 2-3 points 2 is more likely and 1-2 points for the paint and 1 was the norm.

I am not the Real Deal so this is not Gospel according to the book of exterior judging.

The typical rule for Judging luggage racks is a deduction for the 4-6 holes in the fiberglass deck lid to mount the rack. The % of fiberglass and paint system removed from the total car is very small. Typically 1 point for holes. Many cars have the rack removed which in time the shrinkage around the hole telegraphs through-resulting in a deduction. The truth is usually we find over restored, repaired, over sanding, and replaced body fiberglass which results in sizable deductions. My suggestion is to leave the rack and the right hand mirror-which they always tried to sell you with the rack.
