Re: Unique trim tag - Last AOS '67
I find it interesting that the car's VIN plate (194677S120382) says it was produced off the line at St. Louis on June 8th (the same day as my A.O. Smith roadster, #120401, body built J24, May 24th), but the trim tag says the body was built in Ionia on K27, June27th, three weeks after the car left St. Louis.
Sure looks like a fake trim tag, if the VIN is 20382. My 67 AO Smith roadster is VIN 22049 and has a body build of K15, assembly date of June 29. One would expect that a K27 body build at AOS, would have early to mid July assembly date and VIN.
Looks like someone is imagining or wishing that this car was the last AO Smith body, and I could believe that K27 is probably right. But the VIN and other date codes (engine block, transmission, rear end) will tell the true story.Jerry Fuccillo

This story is about to get a whole lot more interesting - stay tuned.- Top

Re: Unique trim tag - Last AOS '67
After looking at the picture of this car's trim tag, noticed that for the Interior Trim "STD" is followed by a period.
Looking at the C2 Registry, there are pictures of 67 tags with and without the period after STD.
Is there a reason for this having occured?- Top

Another thing--
I looked at the picture of the Glove Box signed by Noland Adams and compared it with my signed copy of his Restoration Guide. He signed my copy in felt tip pen about 8" across.
In comparision, and in my opinion, the signature on the glove box is not Noland's.
There is something real fishy here.Jerry Fuccillo

Re: Unique trim tag - Last AOS '67
NCRS shipping report data to the rescue. The last A O Smith Roadster was actually produced as a Coupe when it left St. Louis. It is amazing what you can learn when you use the correct tools at our disposal.
In addition, We found two A O Smith Roadsters with serial numbers higher than 20382. A big thank you to Roy Sinor and Mark Lincoln.
Have a great day!- Top

22374, A- 4574, K21
22846, A- 4972, K27
22938, A- 4884, unknown, but probably K26, a Monday in June.
P.S. would you care to elucidate a little on your first paragraph ?- Top

Ooo, that let's a bit of air out of that particular balloon...
It is nice to see how the available information can verify things.
So just how far to the end of the production is that Coupe?
No need to say the exact number, just curious as to where the AO Smith bodies were at, or near the end of the model run.- Top

Wayne, In my day, Elucidate is a trance band with the Lucid Dream Mix series.
To be more specific to the Last AO Smith Roadster. The GM shipping order states that it is a Coupe delivered to a dealer in Detroit, MI. Therefore something may be amiss.
