Re: 72 454 exhaust french locks

If nobody posts a pic before I get home tonight, I'll post one of the entire bolt.

It's a very funky bolt. The kind you don't take home to...

Re: 72 454 exhaust french locks

Just happened upon this thread. now i'm slightly confused.
70-72 NCRS tech manual on page 67 states
regarding french locks on exhaust manifolds
1970- 454's did not have these locks
while 1971- 454's application is intermittent, and 1972- 454 engines all have them.
I've seen a couple low mile and top flt cars that did have them. And more that didnt. I'm again talking 72's
So is the answer yes 72 BB's have them or they dont?

We should track down the people that write these guides and let them have it.

... and right now it's the 68-9 forest we're seeing.

We could always revise the TIM&JG more often.

I'm sticking with my first and final answer...no Mr. French locks on da big blocks.

Randall, I would not show up for judging at a Regional or National event and expect to get full credit for french locks. I judged '70-'72's for over 20 years and never saw what I thought was an original car in that era with the locks.

I said my piece in the second post on this thread, and I have no reason to change it.

One will not be successful in NCRS (or anyone elses) judging if one treats the TIM&JG like a instruction manual. It is a Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide

I had a 40k mile original car - no french locks.
I was the first to remove the exhaust manifolds - for the restoration.

special bolts on the outer ends, they are self locking I hear...

When one runs the bolts out and in, it will be very obvious that they're not a regular bolt. They go in and out very hard.
