For those of you who may know of my interest in Carter AFB's, as used on 62-65 Vettes, I am a fan of the Tomco Inlet valves as one of the items I choose to help me deal with the Ethanol adulterated fuel we have today, and to appease my spouse regarding the stink in our attached garage. Well, I got burned on one of my latest parts purchases that I feel I must report so that others might avoid the pitfall. I ordered a rebuild kit from a northwest parts supply house and was thrilled that it was a Tomco Kit for only $29.95. My first disappointment came when I realized that the kit must be for Edelbrock AFB's only as it came with a 13/16" cup accelerator pump (instead of 11/16"), and that most of the gaskets are specific to the Edelbrocks. Yesterday, I went to install the Inlet valves in my 3461S and on the very first one, as soon as I applied just a slight amount of tightening to it, it broke right off at the threads. Therein I learned that instead of it being made of brass, as with my prevous ones, this was of brass colored pot metal. Now this pice is hex shaped and, of course, I used a socket to install it, but by no means did I torque it in!
