He said he could see the head because he had the front clip off. If I remove either the kick panel or the air vent grill can I get to these bolts to remove/replace them.

I would rob them for lower hood hinge bolts. On my car the door hinge and steering column to firewall are serrated so I'm guessing that these are also. If I could get them it would be great.
    Larry,

I don't remember if it would be possible to access the GM 3847758 bolt via the air vent grill opening or not.

That same GM 3847758 bolt in my 1964 copy of the AIM can also be found on the following pages, where it may be more accessible:

    1 Assembly, Sheet B1.00, Item 4
    1 Assembly, Sheet C6.00, Item 5
    1 Seats, Sheet 4.00, Item 5
    1 Doors, Sheet 6.00, Item 5 (WAS GM 3816170, 12-11-63)
    Section 9, Sheet 4.00, Item 9
    Section 11-13, Sheet A2.00, Item 4
    Section 11-13, Sheet B7.00, Item 22

Scott - thank you. I found 8 on my rear seat mounts and one on my dash brace as a result...all unmolested. This in addition to the steering column and door hinge which I'd seen. Also, in pouring through other posts I found pics you posted of the dash mounting.

David, Whatever bolt you end up using on your hood, be careful with a 63 or 64 car. If you use too long of a bolt into the hood you can bottom out on the outer skin and crack your hood. That is why the short blunt bolt is specified for 63.

Yes! You may find different lengths but they all will have the serrated washers.

Do not put the three quarter inch pointed tip bolts for your hood hinge bolts on a 63 you will damage the hood. Only use the 5/8 long flat tipped bolts for the hood hinge to Hood.
