No. 4 Body Mount Reinforcement Question

I need to replace both the left and right No. 4 rear body mount reinforcements and the big cage behind the decklid hinge on my '63 convt.

I know you need to remove the reinforcement to get to the rivets holding the cage nut in place.

In order to replace the reinforcement, can I leave the decklid hinge in place, or will I need to remove it in order to access all the rivets that will need to be replaced with the new reinforcement?

I should would prefer not to mess with it if I don't have to.

    Thanks,

Thanks - I really need to know the answer to this before I try to take mine apart, unnecessarily.

Surely the lower rear reinforcement mount has been replaced by many before me.

        Doug,

This is easier than it may appear....I'm not saying easy but not as daunting a task at least I didn't think so as I've replaced all components at #4 position on my '66 roadster. Removing the deck lid hinge is no big deal as well. Don't have my assembly manual in front of me but believe it's one bolt at the bottom and 2 at the top and the hinge is ready to remove (with spring attached). It will give you full access to #4 on the top side. Will this be performed with the body off or on as mine was done with body off.

          Michael,

Thanks for the reply. The body is off the car, resting on a body dolly. I have pretty good access to everything.

Just wasn't sure about re-rivting the reinforcement in such a small space.

I know I need to do this to replace the cage nut. The body mount bolt broke on each side.

I used a standard riveting tool however Arrow makes a rotating head riveting tool which would/would have made the job additionally easier. The head will rotate into positions that a standard riveting tool will some difficultly getting but can be done.

Btw....Lowes sells the Arrow rotating rotating head riveting tool.

Thanks for the heads up on the Arrow riveting tool. I'll be heading to Lowes down the street looking for one.

Riveting's been a big concern of mine since my help (my son) went to College and his replacement (my wife) has limited patience for all this.
