    '67 Crank Pulley 3858533

Crank shaft pulley 3858533 for an L79 is listed as both a 6 3/4" and 6 5/8" diameter deep groove pulley in various places. Which diameter is correct?

It seems to be common for the crank pulley to sit a tad closer to the engine than the waterpump pulley and they just barely clear each other. I've noticed this on a lot of different L79's. Belts appear to align well but the edges of the two pulleys do not "exactly" line up as one would expect. Perhaps the flange of the waterpump pulley is a bit wider...........

    Gene,

    I have three of these.

The presumed original (with all correct markings, but cracked), an "old" NOS example, and a "modern" made-in-Canada example. I just measured all three, they each have an O.D. of 6-3/4". The car is in pieces right now, so I can't help with the alignment questions.

Don't forget about the shim/spacer that's suppose to go behind the water pump pulley per a service bulletin. That's going to add about 1/16" which will contribute to some mis-alignment. The flange on the water pump shaft has to be correct position as well for everything to line up.

I checked mine I have 3 L79's two 67 and a 68. All three the pump flange dimension is dead on to dimension and all three have the small reinforcement disc. As far as I can measure with a steel rule all three are measure 6 3/4" diameter. I also believe all three to be restored originals. All three are extreme close where pulleys come together. And there is a slight offset of the water pump pulley forward of the crank pulley. Belt alignment looks perfect.

I did not want to influence the response to my question.
