    1963-1964 Distributor Weights - 1924737 or 1957867 ???

According to my 1963 and 1964 Chevrolet Parts Catalogs (Oct. 1962 and Oct. 1963) the distributor weight part number listed for 1963 and 1964 Corvettes is 1957867. The 1924737 weights are listed for 1958-1961 Corvettes w/F.I. and 1962 Corvettes in my 1963 catalog.

However, I once owned an "early" 1963 Corvette with a "1111024" & "2J20" (Sept. 20, 1962) distributor. The weights were stamped "37" (for GM # 1924737). I assume that they original weights but they could have been replaced sometime between October 1962 and 1987.

According to Chevrolet Parts History GM # 1924737 was replaced in July 1963 with GM # 1957867 which was then replaced in March 1964 with GM # 1924737.

My theory is that the 1924737 weights were used in the 1963 Corvette distributors until they were used up. The 1957867 weights were probably used on "late" 1963's and most 1964's until the 1957867 weights were used up.

I would appreciate any comments. Enclosed is a photo of a NOS 1924737 weight stamped "37" purchased from a Chev. dealer in the late 1980's (sold in boxes of 5, if that makes any sense). Does anyone have a photo of a 1957867 weight?

David, Nice write up you have there. The 63 and early 64 FI distributors used #37 weights. Those weights were used on the HHP cars from 58 to 63. You didn't ask but there is/was an early 64 FI distributor '063 that was a carry over from a 63 '022. It was a short lived distributor that didn't work well with the 30-30 cam. That distributor used #37 weights, a 63 distr cam, shaft and football. Also used the same springs as a 63. Didn't take the engineers long to find out they goofed and then they came out with the '070 distributor with the proper advance.
All 63 distributors I have seen use the #37 weights. These used to be readily available but they are now history.
Your comment on buying them packaged in a box of 5 was funny as I never figured that one out either. Thanks, John
