I installed new paper gaskets on several of the side covers on my 1960 PG. Have not added ATF yet or started up the car, but the governor side cover is already weeping at the bottom. I knew that I might be wasting my time installing new gaskets because I was warned that I might still end up with leaks; just didn't expect it so quickly.
I believe the problem is the paper gaskets. The ATF is so thin it is saturating the paper gaskets and then weeping out the bottom.
Is there any ATF-resistant product I could use to make a gasket that would take the place of the paper gasket?
Does the replacement product, if any, have to be the same thickness?
I am thinking something like the sheet vinyl used to line shower pans.
From what I understand, gasket sealer can not be used because the ATF breaks it down and then degraded particle can plug up the PG.
