    '65 Tailpipe to Muffler Connection

I am putting some new mufflers (Corv. Central) on my '65. The connection from the tailpipe to the muffler should be welded. Right? Then the exhaust extensions should be clamped. Correct? Thanks for confirming this (or not).

    Mike -

The taipipe (muffler exit) is welded to the muffler, and the stainless extension is clamped to the tailpipe.

On the muffler inlet side, the original production-line part had the intermediate pipe (from the transmission crossmember joint rearward) welded to the muffler inlet as a one-piece assembly. Service mufflers (except N-11) didn't include the intermediate pipe - they were designed to be clamped to the cut-off ends of the intermediate pipes.
