    Stained nuts?! One red...the other blue?!

    Often mentioned is that the two nuts attaching the brake lines to the master cylinder are often stained red and blue to distinguish thread size. Does anyone know which nut is red and which is blue? I'm working on a '75. My best guess from photos of my original cars is the forward nut is red and the aft nut blue, but if someone can truly clarify, it would be great.

    Thanks,
    Tory

    Good question. There is a current post; 'LS-5 valve cover', with some engine bay shots that seem to confirm that.

      Rich,
      Thanks. I looked at them. I'm curious to what you see as to which nut is which color. I guess I'm not seeing the confirmation.

      Thx,

        Red = forward
        Blue = rear

          Stephen,

          Thanks. I agree. Attached is a photo of a '75 and, although it's tough to see, the front nut looks red-ish and the rear blue-ish. To add to this, I found Cardone rebuilt MC use colored palstic plugs which further support the color scheme.

          Thanks,

            I think this will help you. Check out page 4 on this website: http://www.momar.com/www/handyman/H/pdf/H15.pdf .
            It shows the oversize tube fittings along with it's color.
