Since I rebuilt one several years ago, it is time to do it again. I can remember what a PIA it was trying to hook it up inside. Is there a trick or a serious of special words to chant as I do this again. Has to be a user friendly way of doing this.

Re: Putting together a 4656 fuel pump
Have you checked the ST-12 or the 1961 Chevy Passenger Car Repair Manual? I recall the toughest part is releasing the pump arm from the spring assembly. Secure the pump in a vice.
Briefly, you have to remove the spring between the arm and the pump body, then insert a flat blade screwdriver on top of the arm close to where it goes into the pump body, and push down until the hook on the end of the arm (inside the pump body) releases from the spring/diaphragm assembly inside the pump body.
Be sure you take photos of the orientation of the two circular valves inside the pump. If you don't replace them in the correct manner, the pump will be sucking from the carb side instead of the tank side.- Top

Yes,. I have the ST-12 and a '63 repair manual and a '63 Motors Repair Manual. My problem has been hooking up the spring and diaphragm. I didn't know if there is a secret or just be lucky in getting it back together.- Top

I reassembled a 4657 years ago and do remember that reconnecting the arm to the connecting rod inside was tough, but doable. Try googling "re-assembling an AC fuel pump". Might get lucky and find a good quality You Tube video or something printed. Good luck.- Top
