Side Fender Grilles - Chrome Edges for 1970

The 1970-72 Tech. Info. Manual and Judging Guide indicates the 1970 grilles "...show chrome edges on the horizonal edges only". The outer edge runs continuously across the bottom of the grille, up the front and across the top. Is this edge all chrome or is the front edge vertical portion painted, not chrome? All chrome looks correct but appreciate some guidance on this. Thanks

Thanks Tom. Good discussion. The 1971 blue coupe appears to have the second design that according to the Judging Manual was changed somewhere between s/n 1447 and 3600 in that year. I've owned this 1970 since '72 and found out later the car had been repainted and the grilles were painted over so no chrome edges showed. My question concerns only the finish (painted or chrome) on the vertical portion on the front of the grille of the outer edge that spans 3 of the 4 sides of the grille. I believe the 2 horizonal edges are chrome.

        Clark,

On the 1st design grille (used on 1970 models) the raised edge is left exposed to show the chrome plating on that raised rib that makes up the bottom and top horizontal line that continues around the front leading edge of the grille.

Warren...Thanks for responding. From an appearance perspective it makes sense. Pleased to hear it is also meets "code". Clark
