FWIW, original glove box key cylinders were chrome plated, while service replacement were not.....
Corvette Pacifica in Atascadero California sells a repro glove box lock case and mounting U clamp (I think for around $27 combined) that are chromed plated, as were the originals as Kurt states. I don't think any of the other catalog companies sell ones that are chrome plated.

      Mike,

      That is correct.

I have a working key (not original GM) for the ignition which I'm assuming is cut to this code. The key does not work in the doors or glove box. I have no key for those. I'm assuming I will have to pull the door locks and glove box lock out, but will a locksmith be able to "rekey" these cylinders with this 4 digit code? As I've learned here, the ignition and doors will be the same key, but does that key code also identify the glove box/spare tire lock keys. I'm making some asumptions but I would like to keep the keys matching the GM identified key number. I have searched and looked at quite a few threads on keys, but couldn't apply it directly to my inability to totally understand what this 4 digit number meant.

        thanks,

        Hello Mike,

I see you are discussing your key and lock issues with Gary and Wayne. Earlier this year I found Gary's knowledge to be of great help as he helped me get a 1965 spare tire lock that I purchased from him keyed to match my original glove box key. If you are planning to have any keys cut or lock work done Gary is the man to see. He does excellent work and his products and customer service are second to none.

        Best Regards,
