Mid year valve stem cap help

    Hello All,

The valve stem caps listed at the eBay link below...are they correct for mid-year cars. I remember something about the NOS ones having the wrong size font or??????

    All help appreciated.

        Kurt,

The DILL 627s on eBay are still made and are, almost literally, a dime a dozen. They're usually a dollar each on eBay and that's probably high.

The original style DILL 627 caps are as in the pic attached. As you noted, the original font is way bigger and there is no indention in the point. They're also a tad longer, too. They were used from 1960 through the mid-60s, but I don't know the cut-off date when they changed to the current style.

I'd just use the current style as I've never seen a deduct for using them. Good luck finding the originals if you want them. I have a total of one!

Until the Feds mandated the Tire Pressure Warning Systems on all cars recently, all new GM and Chrysler products came with Dill 627 caps; they're everywhere.

The original Dills for our midyears are very hard to find. I have spent many hours going thru buckets of used ones. You hardly ever see the real deal like in Bob's nice photo.
By the way Dill was not the only valve stem used for midyears.
What other company supplied valve stems for the 60's Corvette? This is a test. JD

                    John,

You mentioned Schrader valve stem caps as also being used in addition to the Dills. Do you know what style Schrader cap (maybe some pics?) was used and over what years?

                    Thanks,

                    Bob

Kurt -- before spending time or fortune looking for factory-correct valve caps, ensure that your valve stem length is correct. You don't mention which mid-year model, but for 1965 steel wheels, consensus is that the stem length is 2", not the 1_5/8" shown in the GM parts catalogs for C1.

Here's another link to a long thread [48 posts], about 18 months ago, in which there was quite a back-and-forth of opinion (by the heavyweights ) of font size, thickness, and whether there was anything at the 3 o'clock position.

Here's what I'm going to use for my '65's.

                          Hi Wayne,

FYI '66 and '67 and thanks for the addtional info and links. I ended up with some caps from friend Pete Lindahl.

What Wayne has posted is what shows in the 66 JG.

Is the JG wrong, 1st picture is not in the JG???
