'63 T10 Identification

Confused about the casting marks that are supposed to be on a '63 T10 Corvette trans case. According to the Nolan Adams book it is supposed to be T10-D1.

However, I've found a trans that has T10-1C marking. From the research I've done today, it seems like those cases are only for '61-'62. It has an assembly date code of "WB2231" which I believe to be Feb 22, 1963, first shift. It also has a casting date of January of '63 on the tailshaft. (which of course could have been changed).

Do you guys know if a '63 could have ever had a "T10-1C" case?

Also - is there an easy way to tell a close vs. wide ratio on these T10's?

What is the stamped partial VIN?

According to my notes back in March 1989 I had two 1963 T-10 main cases with the "T10D-1" casting that I bought at swap meets.

One was stamped "3104778" (an "early" 1963 Corvette, VIN # 04778) and "WL1421" (November 12, 1962).

The other was stamped "G116206" and "WM2623" (December 26, 1962, the day after Christmas).

The other casting numbers and letters on the side of the main cases are shown in the photo of my notes.

Thanks Dave. The trans owner didn't see a partial VIN on the case.

Don't think I am gonna go after this one. My '63 is a late March car, and it has a service replacement close ratio '63 Muncie in it at the moment, built in May. That's going to have to be close enough - at least for now.

Are you looking for a close ratio or wide box for your car? The 1963 T-10 wide ratio is identified with one ring on the input gear.

The T-10 D case I am using in my 63 is absent the cast (63) year mark on the passenger side like what is shown in your notes. I posted this question a few years ago and the general consensus was that is is not a production transmission.

The "d" case is used only with the '63 only '421 bellhousing. If you have a non "D" case and want to replace with the "D" case trans, you might need to check the bellhousing to see if it was changed along with the trans.
