    69 interior paint

I need to paint some interior parts ( T&T column And rear window latch bezels) on my 69 coupe with bright blue interior. I have a quart of PPG 13572 SG lacquer. I am trying to match to the area on the column that was hidden from sunlight under the dash. The PPG just seems way to dark or bright compared to the column. It is almost the color of the Le Mans blue exterior. Should the column match the blue vinyl in the interior? the old column color is quite a bit lighter. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help!

    Re: 69 interior paint

On my 1970 with bright blue interior (411) the steering column more or less matches the rest of the interior in color, but gloss is low on the column. There is some minor color difference between various interior pieces -- most noticeable at the passenger door panel, dash panel and instrument panel junction. I don't remember this difference when the car was new, but I was less concerned with the match of the interior pieces than with the tic-tic-tic of the rocker arms back then. I am not sure if that color difference is due to age on the part of the car or on my part.

I went thru this when I replaced door panels, 411 bright blue on my 70'. The door panels were gm but only available in black 30 years ago, the paint PPG was too dark. I will try making a better match and or add color myself the next time I repaint, I do think there was some variation in color from factory. Steve

My thought would be.... using the same interior paint, with different gloss levels, on different surfaces, would have a hard time remaining the same color one piece to another over the long haul. There were also some plastic pieces molded in color so add that to the mix of miss-match.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll have to play with the color to get if right.

When I have had to repaint interior trim parts here in Cincinnati. I have gone with a piece of trim that the finish is what is needed to my local automotive paint shop. This particular shop will mix-up 12oz spray cans and have always matches the color better then expected. Maybe you may have a shop in your location that could do the same.

Look for a SEM automotive interior dye dealer in your area. Take him/her a piece of your trim of your color and let him/her match it. SEM will cover metal in addition to upholstery and hard and soft plastic.

Yes, I think one will find that the SEM interior black paint will match almost perfectly to the color and gloss level of the original factory paint.
