My old '53 - '73 Corvette Parts Catalog shows a part number of 4919437 for a '69 - '72 windshield wiper motor. Part number 5044731, commonly referred to as the 1969 washer motor in restoration and aftermarket literature, does not appear in the parts catalog. A discussion thread in the NCRS archives describes this part number as the wiper motor/washer pump production line assembly. This makes sense since this part number does not show up in the Parts Catalog.
I have several motors with different casting numbers on the back of the housing, and some have part number stickers that have survived. I want to rebuild and restore the correct motor (if I actually have the correct one) by using the 1970 (69 Corvette) Chassis Service Manual. Here is a description of two motors, with subtle differences, that I think are potentially correct for my late (Nov) '69 convertible:
#5044731 STAMPED! on bottom of motor housing.
#4918077 cast into back of the mounting housing
No sticker on motor housing with part number or production date.
This motor was installed in my car in the late '70's for my broken original (didn't save the core............I know, I know). At the same time I replaced the washer pump. Everything about this assembly "appears" correct, and I'm assuming it was an original production line motor that was rebuilt by ?.
#4919437 STAMPED! on bottom of motor housing. This number appears in the Parts Catalog, as mentioned above.
#4918077 cast into back of the mounting housing.
#4919437 on sticker attached to motor housing.
071 9 A2 date on the sticker! Produced March 12, 1969?
A washer pump with cover is attached. The pump cover is correct for '69, but the pump plate has two plastic rivets (same kind as used in the '69 chrome distributor cover) installed into the mounting holes for the headlamp washer drip solenoid. The seller said that not all '69's had the headlamp washer system, but I thought they all had it installed as a "mandatory option". The part number stamped into the housing (correct for '69 per catalog), and the part number sticker with a '69 date strongly support his contention.
My feeling is that the 5044731 assembly is the correct original that GM would have used on the production line, and is the one that I should restore. If you have any additional, or conflicting, information on late '69 wiper motor(s), please let me know. I'm particularly interested in any comments you have about the 4919437, since it has a bit of mystery about it.
Thanks Much
