Re: 64 rocker moulding retainer
Engineering and manufacturing brain cells are hurting over this one...
Never will anyone ever run strip steel through a zinc plating operation. Each piece would cost $20 just for the zinc.
What this is - is strip steel - those huge rolls of sheet metal that get thinned down to a spec thickness and then have a zinc based coating applied to it - all in the roll process. This strip we have would then be slit to width, rolled to the contour, cut to length and then the holes punched in. The edges are bare steel but 99% of the surface area is coated and rust resistant.
Is that coating galvanized, galfan, flash galv, or one of the other types of high zinc rust preventing coatings? Its a cheap one as the spec was pretty light and that is why they rusted easily anyway.

spot on - how do you like the original red chromate drips under this retainer we've been batting around? There's something else there too
