hello all. i am leaving town this coming saturday morning driving from dayton,ohio to charlotte,nc for vacation. i am taking my Z06. i am in no hurry to get there and back.i have no set coarse of travel. i was wondering if anyone can give me suggestions on car shows to attend while i'm on the road. i always enjoy going to shows i've never been before. it's nice to see cars i've never seen before and meet new people.

Google "CAR SHOWS" or "CRUISE-INS" in the areas you are interested in. Many times there is a listing by area or by state on a calendar basis...

You just missed the annual late-summer Auto Fair at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. It was last week and included many local, regional & national clubs including the AACA summer meet. Mark your calendar for next year as its a major national event.

However the Carolinas' Chapter is hosting their Fall Event on Septmber 16 & 17th. Here is the info:

Like Peter said, you just missed the big one. The Charlotte Auto Fair is at the speedway and fills both the infield, track, and parking areas behind the speedway. It takes over two days to see everything. There's not much else going on around Charlotte until the week after next (September 10). Here's some links.

One other thing that I've found is that there is something going on with smaller clubs almost every weekend and these don't show up in these lists. I usually run across these by someone telling me about them, seeing an ad in the paper, or by searching for them specifically (i.e. "muscle car shows" or "hot rod shows" or "Chevrolet shows" etc).

P.S. I was in Charlotte Monday and Tuesday on business, but I got to spend a little time in the NASCAR Hall of Fame. If you like NASCAR, you should go see it.

Weekend after Labor Day is Shades of the Past car show in Pigeon Forge, Tn. and the next weekend is Great Rod Run also in Pigeon Forge. You could probably Google it. I have never been but am planning to go to Shades of the Past. I have some friends that have been and they say it is huge. By the way Pigeon Forge is about 5 miles from Gatlinburg,tn and just a few miles from the Smokey Mountains Nat.Park. Also the Tale of the Dragon is somewhere in that general vicinity. Maybe someone else could shed more light of this.

If you make it to Charlotte Saturday try the Mooresville show it is listed in the cruise links you were sent. All cars but usually a fair number of Corvettes.

all these shows sound great. i will be close to charlotte. i do plan on hitting the some of the local cruise ins and cars and coffee the saturday before i leave. my plan of attack so far is to see ray skillmans collection in indiapolis. then on to floyd garrets museum in severville/pigeon forge. i've been there before and loved it.
as far as stretching my Z06's legs, i did run a low speed coarse in cincinatti about 2 weekends ago. that was an awesome time. my car had more courage than i did. it was great to slide that car through corners and power it down on to the next.
