1954: replaced carpet, removed shift lever -- what next?

i replaced my interior carpet yesterday in my '54. in doing so, i removed the shift lever and the small ring with 4 screws which holds the shift lever to the transmission housing.

the car appears to be in neutral now, and i wasn't sure if there is a special adjustment i need to perform to get the shift lever re-aligned with the transmission?

i found this link for someone with a 1956:

and wasn't sure if a similar process was needed for a 1954. if so, i would appreciate if someone could shed some light on it.

    thanks.

I figured it out.....I raised the car on jackstands, moved the linkage to park, then used a center punch to line up the bolt holes. I still need to make sure things are proper and it shifts correctly. But I think I am good to go.
