    60 Deck lid holes?

I have these two holes in my deck lid and was wondering if anyone can tell me what they are for and if there should be something in them, or are they supposed to be just holes? I'm guessing they have something to do with a hardtop but I only have a soft top so I can't say for sure.

You can see one in the lower center of the pic and the other is on the opposite site of the deck lid.

    Thanks.

You are correct that they are for mounting the hardtop. Each hole gets a bolt, an anchor nut, a gasket, and a nut that retains the anchor nut. They're available from most Corvette parts supply sources. The part number for the Corvette Central kit for 2 of everything is 431015. I'm not in front of my 60, but I was thinking it takes 3 instead of 2.

      Ummmmmmmmmm, I don't think so.
That center hole is typical of the hardtop mounting location for a 56-60 style hardtop. There SHOULD BE two more holes (left and right side) for mounting the 56-60 style hardtop.
That additional hole (with no fitting in it) is typical of the location for the bolts used on 61-62 hardtops (61-62 tops DO NOT use a center bolt because of the raised peak that runs along the center line).
I'm wondering if maybe a previous owner didn't have the original 60 top and they acquired a 61-62 top and added the two additional holes to mount a 61-62 top???

The side holes on our car are farther down on the deck lid about 10inches from the front edge and more on the curve. Ours is a hartop only car. They are about inline with the break between the side a rear windows.

Tom, I've re-read your comment several times and I can't follow what you're saying. It looks like you're saying 3 holes in the first paragraph and then saying 2 had to be added if a 61/62 top was used at the end? In any case, I just looked at my 60 which I stripped original paint from about 25 yrs ago and it's got 3 holes in the deck and I've got the bolts/nuts in all 3. Skuze' me for bein' a dummy and not followin'.

There's a (very hard to see) hole in Greg's top lid where a '61-'62 top would be mounted.

I think you guys are right in that it once had a 61-62 hardtop on it. I'm still learning about these cars but that would make sense. Wouldn't it look kind of funny though with that raised and open section in the middle where the 61-62 body line goes?

At any rate the other three attachment points are there, one you can clearly see and the others are hidden by the soft top. This hole in the very bottom-center of the pic and the one on the other side will get filled.

                  Re: 60 Deck lid holes?

The other site has a GM service bulletin showing how to use a 61/62 top on an earlier car. Conversely a bud purchased a 62 with a 60 top and it wasn't so noticable right off. then he was pissed... at himself for not noticing. Can work but a compromise. I have a 61 top on my 57...temporarily.

Probably dry out quicker after a rain.

Maube just the decklid changed to replace a roll bar cut out or some other damage and it never had a 1/2 hardtop on it???/?

                  the possibilities are almost endless.

                    Norris,
The 56-60 cars had THREE holes in the soft top cover for mounting the hard top.
The 61-62 cars had TWO holes in the soft top cover for mounting the hard top. Then, at the OUTER corners of the soft top cover, next to the door opening, they had two more, for a grand total of 4 bolts for the 61-62 hard tops. If you click on Greg's thumbnail picture, and then enlarge it, you will see a hole without a fitting for the bolt.

My first 62 (1974) had a 60 hardtop on it when I got it. Fit so-so at best. Not only is there a windsplit on 61-62 cars, but the profile is different--the deck lid is flatter on 61-62 cars.
