    under dash insulation

I need to replace the under dash insulation in my 65 coupe with AC. I'm not going to replace the glued on material just the cardboard like material with the rubber plugs. I'm trying to figure out what all I need to remove to get the new piece's in and secure them. it looks like if I get the pedals ,steering shaft and parking brake handle out of the way I should be able to get the drivers side in. I
have not looked at the passenger side yet, the drivers side is the one that is broken. Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Karl

    Karl,

I don't think it's a hard job, should be self explanatory what needs to be removed.

Do a search in the archives about the rubber plugs that push in through the holes in the firewall, these are a treat to install and you can very easily damage them.

      Karl -

The passenger side is a challenge - that dash mat is the gasket between the inside A/C box and the firewall.

I just installed these on my 66. These can be a real pain in the you know what. I used plugs from two different company's.
Corvette Central plugs were hard. I put them in hot water and tried to push them through the holes with dish soap. Be careful what kind of tool you use to push them into the firewall.
Paragon plugs were soft. They were a little easier to install I felt. Again using soap.
I would purchase a couple extra plugs in case you mess one up. I have a couple installed fro, both company's. So far all look great, with correct marking on the large side of plugs. Good Luck.
