    '72 454 oil pressure line

It appears that for a '72 big block this is a nylon line. Is it supposed to be black or clear? Bubba had replaced what may have been the original, but left it hanging through the firewall - both old and "new" are clear.

Also - is this line supposed to be "primed" with oil prior to connection to the gauge?

Thinking about replacing since I have everything else apart...

    Thanks
    Randy

I am pretty sure that 1972 is like 1969 -- a two piece line. Metal (tin plated steel) from the fitting above the oil filter to a bracket on the rear exhaust manifold. At that bracket the line changes to black nylon and then goes through the firewall to the gauge.

Don't worry about priming the line. It is not necessary. the gauge doesn't care if it is oil or air in the line. They didn't do anything special to prime the line at the factory.

I believe a kit with the bracket, fittings and both lines is available from all the large Corvette parts suppliers.

The black line should be available at your local NAPA, Carquest, O'Reilly's, etc. If you have the bracket, all you need is the line and the sleeve that goes over the line at each end. Hint, install the nut before you install the sleeve. It is very agravating to have to redo things.

What Terry described, is exactly how the line is on my '72 454.
