Just returned from Monterey vintage road races. The format has two race weekends back to back, the pre reunion and the reunion. This is an amazing vintage event with race cars from all over the world.
My 64 FI car ran without significant problems. I was worried about running stamped steel rockers for racing but things worked out. I had the rockers and the balls REMed( this is a chemical mechanical micro polish) it reduces heat generated from friction. i have used it for years on rear gears and transmissions, it works. No blueing or discernable wear. Another two of the powdered balls broke. i caught them before any real problems.
I also had a broken high pressure pump cable. Two more were about to fail before I replaced them. I run without a housing so it wasn't a binding problem. This is going to be a serious problem for the vintage racer. I need to check pump for any binds. None wre detectable by hand turning.
The reworked FI unit ran perfectly. I had an A/F readout in the dash through the two weekends.
LOTS of folks interested in seeing and talking about Rochester Fuel injection.
My race group had 42 cars in it, lots of Cobras, I started 15th on Sunday and finished 11th. A 65 corvette driven by Terry Gough won the race( great driver).
