    1970 cross member dent

How can you get rid of a "cross member" dent?

I assUme you mean the front cross member dent from the tempting, but improper use of a jack.

There is a tool to remove the dent, but it is expensive for a one-time use situation and requires the removal of one spring to get it in. Of course if one is doing an entire chassis ... well it is more justifiable.

There is also a front cross member panel, if you want to go at it this way:

    http://www.zip-corvette.com/ProductDetails/ProductDetails.aspx?pid={bc5617d7-1d48-41a4-bdc0-864b11e00518}&gid={13b94323-3f0b-4c7e-8c87-d288120cc75e}&GroupName=Frame+Repair+Components&pn ame=63-82+Frame+%231+Front+Crossmember+Repair&Referer=&Al ias=&ptct=SGR-SR&CTitle=&

Then some people just cut off the bottom piece of the cross member, pound the dents out and weld it back together. Of course having a welder and the skill to use it makes this method easier.

    Chose your poison.

I used the repair tool Zip sells and it works very well, but, as Terry said, it's a bit pricey if you'll only use it once.

Jim our Louisana buddy Gerald Avery has one of these gadgets. I know he would let you use or rent it. Hope this helps Reed

Sure would be nice to be able to rent that tool. I have the GM tool that was used on the A-frame to remove the spring versus breaking the ball joint.

I would definitely consider loaning my tool out in exchange for borrowing the dent removal tool.

There are many tools that will make working on your Corvette easier, but are too expensive for the one-time use a DIY restorer would put them to. Some chapters will loan these kinds of tools to their members. That is just oen of the many advantages of chapter membership.

I bought one of the tools for it's asking price of $110. Used it, worked great, then cleaned it up and sold it on eBay for $75. Net cost of $35.
