    67 GM Grille

    Hello To All,

I have just come to the glorious realization that GM is still selling '67 Corvette grills.

Before I buy one, does anyone know if there are any differences between the over the counter GM replacement and the factory 1967 production line grills?

If so, what are judging impacts?

    Thanks in advance.

    Sincerely,

    DAP

Is this a controversial question? I did a search and found similar questions but no answers.

    Thanks.

      Dave:

I don't think it is controversial...........from what I have seen they are very similar and should result in a minimal point deduction on judging. The biggest question is on the experience/knowledge of the exterior judge.

I would expect around a 0 to 3 point loss on Originality (0 to 20 %) and none on Condition.

Check GM PartsDirect for pricing. Others are much higher.

I am surprised that the 66-67 grill is still available from GM (list $744.32, $447.93 plus shipping of $107.50 from GM Parts Direct). I paid $92.80 on 12/12/1980 (list price was $116.00). As best as I can remember the NOS grill was very good quality. I believe that I still have an extra pair of NOS grill brackets.

In the early 1990's I ordered a grill for my 1970 Camaro from my local Chevrolet dealership. This grill had some defects around the perimeter. The parts person said I did not have to accept it and he ordered another grill for me. The 2nd grill was fine.

          Thanks for the responses!

David, would you be willing to part with the NOS grill brackets?

          Sincerely,

            DAP,

I will dig out the NOS brackets but it might take a few days. I don't think that I have the rivets. When I find them I will send you a PM.

It's GM #3875746 and it's the original and currently available part number.

Re the rivets for ataching the brackets. Is this a special rivet or is it a standard pop rivet. If it's a special one are they available and where can they be purchased?

It was not a pop rivet. It was a solid soft aluminum rivet of pan head design and 1/8 X 5/16 size. It was GM #9418482 and was once available in SERVICE from GM but it is no more.

                        All,

A few months ago I learned that Richard Fortier sells these grills at a price lower than the gmpartsdirect price.

How much less is he selling it for ? The price on that other website ($447) is within a few dollars of the dealer net price.

                            John,

Back in March Richard told me it would be around $350 before shipping. That was then; this is now. And he didn't tell me if he had access to a large supply or not. Give him a call. His phone # is in the Driveline.
