    Clem, like you, have never seen a spirolock come out, but have seen several snap rings come out. Used to used teflon buttons as extra insurance.

      if the snap rings were installed with the "rounded" side outward there was a good chance they would "POUND" out. if you did not "align" the connecting rods your chances of "pounding" out the snap rings was greater because of the motion of the rod on the pin as it went up and down

        I guess the rod side clearance is very important for these full floating rods..

        I can see the blue heat marks on the rods for my 63 where they were heated for press fit. I remember after balancing the machinest talking about a rod vice for the press fit.

          they heat the rods to install the pins. they just press them out to remove the pins. if the pistons are to be re installed the pin holes should be honed because the fixture used to press the pins out will distort the pin bore in the piston
