    "Early" 1965 327 dipstick

    Does anyone with an original early production 1965 Corvette (327 eng.) have a 3739830 dipstick that is EMBOSSED as follows: "ADD", "FULL", "ENGINE OIL", and "M"?

    The EMBOSSED dipstick in my photo is from an "early" 1965 Chevrolet passenger car. Late 1965 Chevrolet dipsticks were STAMPED.

    The 1963 and 1964 Corvette dipsticks were also EMBOSSED instead of the normal stamping method.

      Dave -- my early '65 VIN 014xx has the dipstick exactly as you show. The handle has a chromed loop with black button. Engine is not original (replaced sometime in the late '70s) but most of the parts, other than the block, are dated correctly, so probably transferred.

        Dave, My 65 VIN #14790 has the exact dip stick you have pictured above, embossed, not stamped. Black handle with a black button. 100% guaranteed it's the original one the car was built with.

          Wayne,
          The 65 Corvette w/SHP, FI dipstick is part # 3864974 in the 65 AIM and my three 65 parts catalogs (10/64, 1/65, and 5/65). The dimensions are as follows:
          A = 20 5/32"
          B = 20 15/16"
          The difference between the "ADD" and "FULL" marks would theoretically be 25/32" or about 0.78".
          I could NOT find a part number change from embossed to stamped.

          Jim,
          The 65-74 Corvette base engine dipstick is part # 3862730 and the dimensions are as follows:
          A = 20 5/32"
          B = 20 59/64"
          difference = 49/64" = 0.77"
          Likewise, no part number change from embossed to stamped.

          The photo in my 1st post is of an "early" 1965 Chevrolet 283,327 embossed dipstick with green button, GM # 3860099, which was replaced theoretically on 1/7/65 with the 3876786 stamped dipstick with green button as per the 65 Chev. AIM (revision record).
          A = 20 1/8"
          B = 20 49/64"
          difference = 41/64" = 0.64"
