    1966 327 / 350 Manifold & Distributor

I have a 1966 C-2 327 / 350 HP with Transistor Ignition. All engine parts are orginal. Where does the Vacume Advance go in relation to the Manifold. Another words, close to the manifold or close to the distributor. I have tried both ways. When it is close to the coil I can not install the distributor shield. Close to the manifod it is too close I feel. There does not seam to be a happy in between.

    Tim -

If you can't set the initial timing without interfering with either the plug wire support or the #8 intake runner, pull the distributor, remove the drive gear and reinstall 180* from its original position. That will gain you an additional half a tooth (14*) of distributor movement so you can set the timing and have the vacuum advance can pretty much centered between the support and the manifold.

The distributor was built originally with the "dimple" on the drive gear shank pointing in the same direction as the tip of the rotor, but most aftermarket/replacement camshafts don't have the gear on the camshaft indexed to original GM specs and the distributor gear needs to be re-indexed on the mainshaft.

Thank you again, it worked perfectly. I can't tell you how much of a help this was.
