Need Help! Corvette Restoration AZ Filed Banruptcy

I am not sure if this Thread meets the minimum guidelines set forth on the web page. I truly hope so.

Need assistance and recommendations. I am one of the Vette Owners who was left in the dark, when the widow of the owner of Corvette Restoration AZ, in Tempe, AZ declared Bankruptcy 10 days ago. I by NO means want to degrade the excellent reputation established by Kim Ian Madsen, he was a true professional and good man. If it wasn't for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office to help me out by dispatching a patrol car to check out the business, I would not have known of the business closing down. I have made contact with the Attorney for Madsen LLC and have hired my own Attorney to go after the company so that I can find out where my Vette is. My 62 Vette was given to the company as an all original documented 62 Vette, for a full frame off restoration. Now I do not even know where the car is, what condition it is in and if all the original parts are accounted for. If you know of anyone else who has been poorly taken care of due to this Bankruptcy by this company, I will surely share the information I gather as the days unfold.

Where I am searching for help, is does anyone know of any reliable restoration shops that take cars which I suppose are in pieces and parts, not even sure of if I get all of my parts back, and restore the Vette like the previous company should have done. I am also trying to figure out how best to transport the Vette, when and if I am told to go pickup my Vette if the Bankruptcy Trustee allows. Any recommendations will greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You, your attorney and the shop need to get what you can back as soon as you can, from there, I expect there are good shops very close to you versus the other side of the country and you won't know about transportation until you know the state of the restoration, perhaps they never took the car apart.

I'll add another recommendation as well. Tom Kumisca (TKO Restorations) in Tucson 520-269-3731. He specializes in NCRS restorations (paint and all in house).

I have sent a few cars to TKO in Tucson and never had a complaint. He was quick and precise.

Ihor, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. it doesn't happen very often, but it's one of the risks of having someone else do your restoration. After you get custody of your car back, you have to think about shipping parts and the body/frame back, and what that will cost. If you find someone close by like TKO, they may go and get it and save you the shipping costs and hassle. You could also find a shop close to you that would be willing to go get the car. Classic Automotive Restration Specialists (CARS) in Belews Creek, North Carolina (north of Greensboro) will do this free of charge, although I don't know if they will go to Arizona or not. Jim Barber knows his stuff and his people do fine work. Check out thier web site. There's also shop tour slides.

Thank you all for your support and recommendations. I was able to obtain my Vette this past weekend. Unfortunately, about 85% of the Vette was located. Some high dollar original parts were not at the Shop.

Doug, Issue with these on-line auctions is they take no responsibility for shipping, you have to have someone on the ground ou there...

Hey Ihor, Doug has found some good information. If any of the parts sold at this auction have your VIN derivitive on them, thier yours. They would be confiscated and returned to you as stolen property. This might apply to the other parts you're missing too. You should talk to an attorney or to the local police in that town.

It all looks like crap. Not a lot of items.

I have seen one vette, an '82, that the owner eventually got back after a lot of hassle with attorneys and the courts.. It was transported to another shop nearby. The work that the bankrupt shop did was terrible. At best the work wasn't even at good bandaid job. He was just glad to get the car back and get it to a good shop for proper restoration.
