Best Time for Annual Oil Change?

I drive my '58 270 2x4 less than 3,000 miles per year, here in Pennsylvania, during the warm months. I just got the car a year ago (August 2010) and am trying to figure out the best time to do an oil/filter change.

Does it make more sense to do it at the end of the driving season, before taking it off the road, or in the spring, before starting to drive again? What do you experts think? Thanks!

correct as you want to get out the old oil that could have stuff to cause rust internally or damage the bearings. after putting in the new oil run the engine long enough to get the clean oil into the bearings

Change the oil before you place the car in winter storage. Why would you want to let dirty oil stay in the sump all winter only to change it in the Spring.

Clean oil in the sump of a stored car does not age. The time/mileage clock doesn't start until the car is placed back in service.

The same does not apply to antifreeze and brake fluid.

You really don't want to see the bearings on an engine that was stored for several years with dirty oil in it. Looks like worms had been eating the babbit
