Re: Best Tires for NCRS Judging - 1965 Coupe
Dean, My copy of the 1965 JM shows Goodyear, Firestone, U S Royal, B. F. Good Rich, & General as suppliers which have blackwall, whitewall, & goldstrip sidewalls. All current copies will have a DOT number which will result in a deduction. I cannot comment on who supplies the best "repro". My personal opinion is to not drive it any distance (IE driving points) with bias ply tires, they are only good for display. Good luck, Don H.- Top

Agree with Dick. I have a set of Kelsey Goodyear current reproduction bias plys on my car. Loses only 3 points in Flight judging at the Regional level.
The only other way to get a better score is to find an ORIGINAL set of tires. Good luck, and open your wallet......Chris Enstrom

Be careful reading the JM. It specifies Make and Model (Powercushion, Super Sports,...) These both have to be correctly matched. For what it is worth, a friend put together a set of ORIGINAL tires, one at a time, that dollar cost averaged to a reasonable amount.- Top

Re: Best Tires for NCRS Judging - 1965 Coupe
You definitely want to get the nylon cord tires, not polyester. Some of the repops are polyster, better handling and no flat spots (like the nylon), but not correct and you will lose points. I used Firestone Super-Sport nylons on my '66 and only lost for the DOT stamp. I also think the Firestones are cheaper than any of the Kelsey Goodyears. I drove them for 200 miles to a regional and had no issues except the typical bias-ply wander over the road, and that nasty flat-spotting of course.
