Would a 60 with 15x5 1/2 wheels still use the standard blackwall tire? 6.70 x 15 nylon cord or rayon cord?

Re: 60 big brake wheels , tire choice?
Also are there blackwall tires avaliable today that will give the proper fit in the trunk spare wheelwell, Raising the cover about 1/2" or so. Or does the 5 1/2" wheel do that?- Top

Re: 60 big brake wheels , tire choice?
Bryan, I have a documented 59 w/ 5.5 rims. I'm away till later tonight, I don't remember if they were 6.70 from the factory, but I'll check the dealer order sheet and let you know for sure. I do know that the original owner had them changed for a larger size when the vette arrived at the dealership per original documents. (Still have the larger size mounted on the rim.) I'll check all this & let you know tomorrow night. Al- Top

Re: 60 big brake wheels , tire choice?
Hi William, per the factory order sheet, the tires were 6.70X15 4 ply white walls, so apparently the 5.5 " rim is what holds the trunck board up off the trunk floor. As Rev. Mike stated, judging would be with this size tire installed. I'm not sure if all of them were white walls or not. The only listing on the factory order form states "White Sidewall Tires 6.70X15-4Ply". If Mike or anyone else out there knows if blackwalls were available, please chime in! The original owner of my 59 had the dealer do a "change-over" to 7.60X15 white wall tires and calibrate the speedometer for the larger tires for an extra $88.00. Hope this helps. Also, as an added note, the rims were and always have been painted black. Al- Top
