    Carl,

Original 65-66 wheels are stamped on the "inside" part of the rim as shown in my sketch which you can not see when a tire is installed. There are NOT any stampings near the valve hole.

Replacement wheels made in the 1970's and 1980's appear to be the same physically EXCEPT they are stamped near the valve hole (example: "K 1 8" "3" valve hole "16" which would be dated March 16, 1978) as well as on the "inside" part of the rim.

      Carl,

This thread should help with your first question:

      https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...wheel&uid=5555

I paid $250.00 per wheel at Carlisle in 2009.

Carl, its a matter of objective and personal preference, if you are going to show the car, you need the real deal, anything else won't show.

I have two sets, the real originals in the attic and the service wheels for runnning fast. That and I actually prefer the hub cap spinner appearance over the WW.

            Carl,

After getting a lot of good advice/education from the folks on this forum, I ended up picking up a set of original wheels with clear markings for $675. I think I got a good deal as I was seeing some listed for twice this price. I found that some sellers on the auction site really had service replacement wheels that they believed were originals, so if you want originals, definitely look for the markings. I didn't find as big a price difference in service replacements v. originals as I thought I would. I haven't put mine on yet, but will likely order some goldline radials and do so soon. Jim
