    Cone or NO Cone?

I was at a recent chapter meet in Galena, IL and the question came up: Does the spare knock off wheel for 1963-1966 need to have a cone glued on it or not?.....

There seems to be a lot of various opinions on this topic.

    Any clarification is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Dominic.

Never heard this before . By all means, the KO wheel in the spare tire carrier is no different than the other 4 wheels. The cone was glued on by Kelsey Hayes.

Assuming that the cone in question is the chrome or brushed stainless at the center of the wheel.

Since tire rotation recommendations back then involved all 5 tires it would only make sense that the spare rim have a cone; since the other four are glued on.

I recently looked at a 10k mile bowtie 66 and its spare had the cone.

            Steve/Phillip,
            Thanks for the feedback....

            Steve,
            FYI,
I checked that same car as well and it had a cone on the spare!

Appreciate the help on this topic!

I bought a new 66 BB from the dealer showroom. Window sticker said it came from GM with knockoffs. Yes it had knockoffs but the spare tire was a steel rim. Dummy me didn't know until I joined NCRS in 1979 that the car should have had a knockoff spare. JD

I can just picture the typical new Corvette owner faced with changing a flat on that car (jacking instructions didn't include how to remove the KO adapter -- the front wheel would have been even more fun).
