Well, with the help of this TDB I was able to fix the fuel leak from the tank sending unit; new o-ring and retention ring and I'm back in business. I took the the L79 out for a test drive and she stalled about 1 mile down the road. I thought maybe the fuel line had some air in it from my disconnecting the line at the tank, but when I took the lid off the air cleaner, there was gasoline everywhere! The filter element was soaked and there was fuel standing in the recesses of the manifold and the well of the air cleaner assembly base. When I cranked the engine, gasoline came spurting out of the forward vent on the Holley carb. What's the deal with that?! I towed the car home and I'm going to let her dry out.
I can't imagine that it has anything to do with my repairing the leak at the tank, but I've never had even a remotely similar problem before. I just put 130 delightful miles on this car last Sunday before I found the fuel leak. I'm snakebit!!!
Any ideas?
Thanks!
