1953-54 Trunk mat repros

Only you old timers would know this, but does anyone remember the fella that reproduced the 1953 trunk mats in error, he thought he was doing the 1954's. This would have been in the mid to early 70's. All of a sudden when he was told what he had done, his potential customer base shrank about 90%. It was at one of the Bloomington Corvette Corals in the late 70's that he was selling the mats at fire sale prices. I think he was down to around $75. It was getting near the end of the swap meet and the owner of #99 asked me if I'd like to get one REALY cheap. He said he'd do the talking and offer the fella $100 for a pair of them. The fella didn't even hesitate, so we each had a $50 mat. I still have mine rolled up in the basement, if I unroll it, it still smells new.
