I am working on replacing the steel rocker reinforcements on my '62 and thought I would share some photos. As you can see the rear part of the original d/s piece is gone. I bought the car in 1975 and it has been garage kept and dry since that time. So I would say that the majority of the corrosion occurred between '62 and '75. I don't know much about the past history of the car but there was an imprint in the paint from a dealer emblem. You could read Colorado Springs, Co. so I think salt covered roads contributed to the corrosion. When I finished removing the piece I found alot of rust chips, cotton stuffing from my seats (mice), a button, a blown fuse and a 1944 standing Liberty half dollar. Who knows how long that silver half dollar was in there but it would have bought 2 gallons of gas in '62. I'm curious to see what the p/s will reveal. P.S. The new panel will be stripped and recoated. The panel had corrosion under the e-coat when I received it. Hence the silver paint.

Re: 62 steel rocker reinforcement replacement - photos
If it is Daniels Chevrolet in the Springs you might get lucky, a well informed source tells me they have records on the cars they sold new in boxes in the attic of the dealership.
