I have a chance to buy a Super Lift, model SJ 7000 from a friend. It is the least expensive model in the Super Lift lineup. Does anyone out there have any experience with this model ????

Re: Car Lifts
William I quess I am the resident lift person . I have over 30 years in the lift busines , selling servicing and installing. The SUPER LIFT CO. / SUPERIOR LIFT CO. has been in and out of business the last couple of years. I have customers who placed orders and never received their lift.
They stopped building their own lifts over 2 years ago. In Carlisle last year I spoke with SUPER'S old production MGR. , who went in business for himself after they closed the factory.
The last I heard they were buying some lifts from a company in Texas and also buying some Chinese lifts and putting a decal on them. I am not sure which model . If you search some lift web-sites you can find more stories about them. I would suggest you look at some other brands of lifts. If you have some specific questions send me PM and I will give you my opinion.

Re: Car Lifts
On garagejournal.com yesterday there was a guy talking about how he got stiffed by them for 3800.00. I would agree with Mark about checking out others first. If the deal is good enough you could buy it and hope you never have to have parts or service. Good luck- Top

Re: Car Lifts
The SJ-7000 Super Lift that I am considering is 6 years old and has less than 20 hours of use on it. It was built before the company started to have problems. The paint is not even worn off of the inside of the posts. It has mostly sat unused in a heated garage. It comes with the caster set, drip treys (3), aluninum ramps, jack trey and polished aluminum dress up kit. From what I have been told , Super Lift has, in the past, built a fairly good lift. My main question is "does anyone know if they have any history of quality (dangerous) problems". My intention is to use it for general maintainence and minor repairs to my '63 Roadster.- Top

Re: Car Lifts
If your buying a used lift I don't think you have to worry about getting it after you pay for it. I have two of their lifts and have never had a jproblem with either. One is about 7 years old and the other about 5.
Now you are going to hear that they are not the best quality. If money is no object buy you a Back Yard Buddy. But I am completly satisfied with mine.

Again I have been pleased with mine.
And mine are the same model you are considering.- Top

Re: Car Lifts
I have a 2 post Mohawk - Love it.
It appears super heavy duty - way more then the 7000 Lb capacity claimed.
Bought mine used - the dealer came out and installed it for under $2K.
Very Happy....

Re: Car Lifts
I simply called the local Mohawk dealer in my area. (Miami)
He had a used one available, and included a full factory warrantee.
Couldn't have been any easier....
After about 14 months, one of my hydraulic cylinders started to leak.
Mohawk offers a lifetime warantee on the cylinders -
The dealer came right out and replaced it for me -
Very happy!!! - Neo likes it too.

Re: Car Lifts
The biggest thing you hear about is lifts falling over. The ones that have the piece that wraps around the post are safer I'm sure. But if you lower one like mine and for some reason one corner catches on a block and you have your head turned watching the neighbor mow her lawn in her bikini, you are going to have a problem. I make a point to not be talking to someone and watch my lift as it goes down to make sure all 4 corneres are going down. Anything can happen but a lot of the lift stories you here about are because someone was not jpaying attention.
Again I have been pleased with mine.
And mine are the same model you are considering.- Top
