Roadside Assistance Cards and Courtesy Key

Looking for original owners of 94-96's Corvettes. When you received your new Corvette, did you later receive a Roadside Assistance Letter from GM?

This letter had an attached Large Blue Key that contained the Courtesy Key.

    I have these items.

What I am looking for is the identity of the two items that were included in the Roadside Assistance Letter at the bottom. I know one item was the Roadside Assistance Card.

    Thanks

    FYI Charlie:

At the National Convention, the interior judge for my '92 did not want to see the emergency key because it wasn't delivered at the dealer. It came in the mail. Your results may vary...

Re: Roadside Assistance Cards and Courtesy Key

Bill, thanks for the response. This is the point I am making also. What I was able to obtain from the original owner included a lot of documentation that was received after the sale, but shown as a judged item. We know that GM went from an Emergency Key to a Courtesy Key identifier sometime around 1993.

We have pretty resolved the issue that the courtesy key also referred to the emergency key, came after the sale.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I earlier sent this message to a Corvette Salesman of some fame and he has the same missing slot on his Roadside Assistance Letter. He also can not find the Courtesy Key, although he has the holder. The thought is that it is in some wallet that was disregarded or put away.

Any other comment would be greatly appreciated from the membership.

We are just trying to put all the documentation that an owner would receive in connection with the purchase of the Corvette. This pertains to judged and non-judged items.

Hi Charlie. Or do you prefer Pat?

I never got the letter or key with my new 96. Don't know why not.

        Regards, Pat

Re: Roadside Assistance Cards and Courtesy Key

Pat - I am an original owner of a 95 and have the original roadside assistance letter and emergency key. I believe mine has two roadside assistance cards at the bottom of the page (I guess the idea was you would remove them from the paper and put them in your wallet or in the car) - I will have to look at it tomorrow to confirm (will try to post a picture). My emergency key did not come inside the "giant key" as your picture shows but was simply in the plastic sleeve with the metal key and was enclosed in the same envelope with the letter. I am pretty sure the plastics sleeve has the VIN printed/embossed on it as well (again I will try to post a picture tomorrow). And, yes it was received in the mail after I took delivery of the car - I still have the envelope it was mailed in so I will look at the postmark to see when I received it in correlation to my delivery date. Thanks for posting your question and trying to gather additional info for the 94-96 group.

Re: Roadside Assistance Cards and Courtesy Key

Pat and Tom, thanks for the response.
Pat, I have recently been in contact with two individuals who purchased low mileage 94-under 1,000 miles and a 96 under 5,000 within the last year. They both did not have the letter in the documentation with their Corvettes and an interesting side note was that neither one of them had the Roadside Assistance Decal on the driver's side window. See atttached. Also, the ones that I have seen were crooked on the window
Perhaps when the Roadside Assistance was received after the initial sale the owners did not include it in their documentation. Or a better thought is that maybe the selling Dealer did not notify the proper department at Chevrolet so that the Roadside Assistance Letter could be sent. Pat see if you have the decal on the driver's window.

Tom, you have answered the question of what was the second item in the Roadside Assistance Letter. The additional information you provided also is of a great help in clarifying the judging of the emergency/courtesy key as shown in the 1994-96 Judging Manual.

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Pat I also bought my 96 LT4 new. I do not remember if the credit size plastic Roadside Assistance card with the serial number of my 96 on it and the emergency key came in the mail or was given to me at the dealership. Do have the road side assistance decal on on the rear bottom of the drivers door window.
Lost my emergency key that I kept in my wallet many years ago. Wish that had not happened. The spare door key was a neat thing to have.
Did you get the 96 Corvette VCR tape in your 96?

I received the exact same item(s) with my 95. I keep everything on it. Letter was postmarked, Feb., 22, 1995. Took delivery of car on Dec., 21, 1994. For future, my 99 received an emergency key in a bit different folder.

Charlie, as I recall I did have the roadside assistance decal but I removed it. Nonetheless, I agree that my dealer probably did not initiate the proper procedure to get me the letter and key.

Hi Jim, yes, I did have the VCR tape in the door, discovered it years after I bought the car by accident. I still have it and it still works.

Re: Roadside Assistance Cards and Courtesy Key

Pat - I am having trouble posting the pictures, but my letter does have both cards at the bottom. Each card has the VIN on it and there is some additional printing on the back of the cards that I can see through the paper (but I am not taking the cards off now to read). Again, the emergency key was just included with the letter and was not inside any other packaging (except the grey plastic "credit card" type sleeve).
My car was built in October 1994 and I took delivery the first week if November but the envelope for the roadside assistance letter/key was not post-marked until February 1, 1995. Not sure how that compares to others, buy 90 days might not be too far off for a big company to process something like that.
Also, I was at the National Convention in July and had my 95 judged. Tom Barr (team leader) and the interior section judges know there are discrepancies between the manual and what they have been finding is "correct" or typical. I believe they are working on some revisions but it would be best to contact Tom Barr directly.

Pat has been helping Tom Barr with the corrections. Hence the surveys... This is the first time that I have seen the BIG cardboard key that had the courtesy key inside.

The dealer only had to report the retail sale in your name. I would say that was done. Chevrolet bombs the new owners with lots of mail, I'm sure many were discarded as "junk mail".

Thanks to all for the information. I will put it all together and post the results. Tom Barr has been working hard to get all this straight. The judged items changed a lot at the end of the C4 run. A number of items were mailed after the sale.

Mr Weber, here is the back side of the Roadside Assistance Card.

Tom, don't forget to look in the old drawers for that old wallet.

Hi Tom. I don't know if my dealer did that or not, but I can assure you the letter and courtesy keys were never given to me, and they did not arrive by mail, either.

Pat, did you receive Corvette Quarterly after your purchase ?? Just curious. Was your car one that had been in inventory a while, or did you order it. Just trying to run through some scenerios on how the documents might not have gotten to you. What was the delivery date of your car ?
