    60 Tailights refurbish?

What is the best (less expensive) way to refurbish the tailights? The chrome has flaked off and one socket is loose.

    Thanks, Steve

Sound like you need to have the assemblies re-plated. If you search this forum you will find references for many plating shops. Prices will vary greatly. I paid $300 to have mine done, and that was a fairly low price. They turned out OK, but not what I would consider great. The tail light assembly is pot metal, so you need to make sure the plater does pot metal, apparently some do not.

The quality will also vary between platers. I don't know that price is directly related, but Paul's Plating is arguably the best, but they are also more expensive than many others. They did my door and window posts and they turned out great.

As for the loose socket. You would have to check with the plater to see if they can repair it. I had one loose on my 60 and fixed it myself. It was somewhat out of round and loose. I was able to straighten it, and reset the small indentions that kept it together.

Best and least exspensive do not go together in the restoration of anything. LOL I bought new ones, but as mentioned before make sure the plater does pot metal and see an example of his work. If you want it done right send it to a place such as Paul's. There are other places mentioned in the archives and check the Drive Line.

if you are gonna have them replated make sure you remove the lens retaining L shaped brackets before you send them out, the process usually damages them, easy to replace when plated.
