    Inner Guards 1971

    Hi

I am doing a refresh of my engine bay and need some guide please on how the wiring harness and vacuum hoses should run through the front of the inner guards to the lights etc.

    1971 auto A/c with 26" core.

My drivers side guard has been replaced at some stage in the last 40 years.

    The current route was
    - hoses went through a hole in the inner guard through the wheelwell and then into the headlight area.
    - harness went over the hood hinge.

Here are some shots of the current holes.

The AIM however shows that the hoses and harness should go between the radiator support and the inner guard through a recess.

This AIM shot shows something more like the way the A/C hoses route on the passenger side.

I am thinking I have the wrong style inner guard.

Happy to cut and re shape it as the support behind had a recess similar to the first AIM shot.

Can someone please confirm how it should route

    Regards

    Craig

The AIM is correct. It appears your wheel house, or guard as you call it, has been replaced. It looks hand laid and should be press molded (smooth on both sides) I think. I have no idea why it wasn't made with the "tunnel" molded in. It appears to fit up to the brace that is made for the "tunnel". My car is in the same state as yours at present, but I recall the wiring and hoses for the headlamps running together through there. Chip.

      Thanks Paul

Yes there is some hand laid glass in the inner guard.

Looks like I will need to cut and re shape that panel to give me the channel to run them through.
