igination switch 62

is there a fine thread on original iginations switchs.
I have obtained a original 1 hole and the reproduction chrome nut
does not thread on. It looks like original thread is fine and repro is course. Is this corrent.

My 1963 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (effective Oct. 1962) lists ignition switch asm # 1116577 for 60-62 Corvettes in Gr. 2.188 and the ignition lock nut as # 3816982 in Gr. 2.198 for 60-63 Pass. cars and 60-63 Corvettes and described as "1-24 thd.-1 1/4 O.D." The switch PROBABLY has a casting "577" on it.

The nut listed for the 53-56 Pass. and 53-59 Corvette is GM # 1929529 and described as "1-32 thd. - 1 11/32 O.D." The ignition switch for 57 Pass. and 58-59 Corvettes is listed as GM # 1116547. There should be a "547" casting number on the switch.

Do you have the correct switch and is there a 3-digit number on it?

Pictured is an original 3816982 nut with a "3816982" casting number on the back side that you need a magnifying glass to read. The O.D. measures 1.25".

Roger,

It appears that your ignition switch is from a 1957 Chevrolet, GM # 1116535 as per my 1957 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (effective March 1957). The nut for this switch is GM # 3736482 and described as "1-32 thd. - 1 7/32 O.D.
Apparently GM # 1116535 was replaced with GM # 1116547 sometime between March 1957 and October 1962.

You do not have the correct ignition switch for your 1962.

Roger - I hadn't paid to much attention to the nut thread on the ignition switches. So I went to the part department and pulled a 60-62 switch and a 58-59 switch and found it interesting that the original ignition switch for the 60-62 Corvette which is a 1116577, embossed "577", has a coarse thread for the nut while the 1116547, embossed "547" used in 58-59 has a finer thread for the nut. It does not surprise me that you have a "547" switch with 1-32 thd. as well as a "577" switch with 1-24 thd. in your collection.

Does your reproduction 60-63 Corvette chrome nut have the casting number "3816982" on the back side?
