I am trying to help a friend who wants to install a convertible top on a hardtop only car .I have not looked at his car .My question is this. There is 1/4 bolt on the inner quarter that you can not feel the back side .Is the nut plate there under the fiber glass.Did all the cars have the nut plates weather they had a convertible top or not?

Re: 1957 Convertible Top
Dan,
Do a search on the Technical Forum. Quite a discussion about this in 2010 (?), with photos and all.
He'll have to remove the gas tank to install a nut plate.

Re: 1957 Convertible Top
My curiosity made me search "soft top bracket" and I found this thread Gary's referring to. It was quite informative.

p.s. I would imagine the tee nuts are missing on that 57. A prior owner added a soft top on my 59 many years ago. They were missing on mine. Because they didn't pull the tank, they did not install the tee nuts. Top still works fine.- Top

Re: 1957 Convertible Top
Dan, Gary and Rich have a good reference. Since the hardtop only cars are more rare than the softop cars I would either leave it as a hardtop only car or buy a 2 top soft top lid and not cut the original lid to maintain originality of the panel---just my opinion.
